What is the Role of a School Counselor?
My job at JBE is to help all students to do their very best in all areas of their lives. This includes understanding how they are feeling, managing their feelings and behavior, helping them to develop character traits, problem-solving skills, personal safety, and social skills, along with many other valuable life skills and lessons. This year I will be visiting your student's classroom biweekly to teach all of these skills and more through various guidance lessons and activities. Along with classroom guidance lessons, I will be offering small group counseling throughout this school year and individual counseling to meet students' needs. Please note that parent/guardian permission is required in order for a student to participate in small group counseling.
My counseling theory and technique is most often solution-focused, where I provide students strategies and support to solve problems. This counseling technique increases their self-confidence in their own abilities. Along with this technique, I also use various counseling theories targeted at helping each student’s individual needs and adapt those as needed. It is important to me that students develop into contributing citizens in their school and community with self-efficacy and the tools necessary to succeed in life. I will always strive for family partnership and collaboration as I work with your student. I also am here to serve our JBE families, so if there are any questions you have or resources you may need, please do not hesitate to email, call, or come meet with me in person. I want to make your student’s education at JBE the best it can be!
